This article is part of Media Bubbles, a regular article examining how other news and opinion outlets (big, small, and component) are covering the 2024 presidential election.

On Monday, liberal and conservative media outlets prioritized the announcement that the Supreme Court had granted former President Donald J. Trump immunity from prosecution.

But the similarities end there.

Liberal media criticized the resolution, calling it a biased resolution through a conservative Supreme Court. They said this had raised the stakes for the November general election, as the ruling complicates the criminal case opposing Trump for trying to overturn the last election. .

Many conservative media outlets presented a relatively straightforward assessment of the ruling, leaving it up to the lower courts before which aspects of Trump were protected from prosecution. However, several conservative commentators celebrated the 6-3 resolution and rebuked Democrats who opposed it.

This is how several media outlets covered the news:

The court’s ruling concluded that Trump was immune from prosecution for “official” acts of his presidency, but said he was not immune from prosecution for “unofficial” conduct.

Such broad immunity was mandatory to maintain “a lively and independent executive,” according to the majority opinion written by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The resolution also declared that a district court deserves what it relates to official and unofficial conduct, adding Mr. Trump on Jan. 6, 2021. This procedure would likely delay any trial against Trump until after the November election.
