Fiji Airways prepares to expand in United States with new longer route

If Fiji is on your bucket list, there may soon be a new way to get there.

Fiji Airways on Thursday announced plans to launch a new non-stop flight between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Nadi International Airport (NAN) in Fiji. The airline has requested permission from the US Department of Transportation, which will first have to approve the new direction before Fiji Airways can release the service.

At the time of the unveiling, the airline announced that it would deploy a 334-seat Airbus A350-900 to Dallas. Fiji’s A350 offers a competitive product of business elegance arranged in nine rows in a 1-2-1 inverted tang configuration.

Every stylish business traveler will have direct access to the hallways, as well as 17-inch TV screens, power outlets and USB ports.

Fiji’s A350s also have 301 economy seats, 39 of which offer additional legroom.

The airline “will operate with 3 weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, once all required government approvals are received,” according to the document.

If Fiji is granted permission to operate the new DFW address, it will be the airline’s longest flight to date. At 6,625 miles, the Dallas-Nadi direction is 760 miles longer than the airline’s existing longest direction to Vancouver. (Flights will last approximately thirteen hours, yet Fiji has not yet shared proposed departure and arrival times. )In addition, Dallas would be the airline’s fourth destination in the United States, joining Honolulu, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Fiji’s planned expansion comes just days after the airline announced it would adopt the U. S. AAdvantage loyalty program. U. S. Travelers will be able to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles on all flights within Fiji and enjoy reciprocal loyalty benefits for elite members. It is also conceivable that American will launch a reciprocal exchange of system-wide improvements on flights within Fiji.

In addition to AAdvantage news, Fiji recently gained approval to become the last member of the Oneworld airline alliance until 2025, of which American is a founding member.

As Fiji’s national airline, Fiji Airways’ main project is to boost tourism in the South Pacific archipelago. With DFW’s new address, travelers can electronically book a bunch of one-stop addresses from all over the United States to Fiji, which will most likely increase the appeal of a flight to Fiji for many travelers based in the United States. This is especially true for travelers based on the East Coast, who lately want to take a transcon flight to connect to a nonstop address between the United States and Fiji.

In addition, Fiji Airways has taken advantage of its strategic location in the South Pacific to offer attractive fares for directions beyond Nadi and nearby destinations such as Australia and New Zealand. This new direction could potentially lead to a decrease in rates on major transpacific directions.

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how the regulations from the Ministry of Transport (TPG) will keep you updated with the latest news as we get more details.
