The Brinnon Fire Department reports that containment efforts are focused on creating fire lines along the back of homes in Duckabush, with heavy machinery on the ground and helicopters hovering overhead. Fire Chief Tim Manly says due to the remote location, air resources are essential. However, helicopters trying to put out the flames on Thursday encountered serious difficulties.

“You have to be able to see where the helicopters are headed, and this smoke is very dense,” Chief Manly said. “It all started with exactly one huge slope and dangerous situations to even think about sending firefighters there. “

The burn ban remains in effect as firefighters continue their efforts to control the fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
