A whirlwind of media appearances, big and small, has marked Donald Trump’s last four weeks, as he tries to get the attention of his new opponent, Kamala Harris.

Donald J. Trump’s media strategy can be summed up in one word addressed to one of his former enemies, the logorrheic mayor of New York, Ed Koch: unavoidable for comment.

In fact, the former president has seemed that way for the past month since President Biden ceded the Democratic ticket to Vice President Kamala Harris, ending a campaign that Trump once convinced he would win easily.

Harris dominated the national verbal exchange even though she had mostly walked away from reporters and refused to hold a news conference. Eager to assert himself, Trump embarked on a cavalcade of interviews in venues large and small, appearing on a video game celebrity’s broadcast. page, requesting a radio broadcast in New York City and courting them at vacation homes in Florida and New Jersey. However, his appearances involve sympathetic interviewers who rarely question his claims and intersperse questions with lots of praise.

The effects have been mixed. Fans enjoyed his appearances, and Trump’s press meetings were broadcast live on cable channels. But it also sparked controversies that his supporters were quick to cover, such as when he told Elon Musk that some strikers would be fired.

A Trump Media Pattern of the Month:

Date: July 30.

Interviewer: Sid Rosenberg, a veteran New York radio announcer who rose to fame as a direct commentator on the Don Imus exhibition (from which he was eventually fired for making offensive comments).

Notable quote from Trump: “If you’re Jewish, if you vote for a Democrat, you’re a fool, an absolute fool. “
