The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics will take place on Friday, July 26 and many events will start the next morning, but sports enthusiasts will have to wait a little longer to see those events at the Games.
The sport of the Paris Games, divided into two disciplines, speed and combination of bouldering and lead, begins on Monday, August 5 with the semifinals and the qualifying events.
The women’s final race and the men’s final race will take place on August 7 and 8 respectively. The men’s and women’s combined finals (bouldering and leading) will take place on August 9 and 10 respectively.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, speed, bouldering and leadership were combined in a single event. However, few climbers compete in such disparate disciplines; In fact, none of the climbers qualified for Paris 2024 will compete in speed and combined.
The United States has qualified eight athlete spots for sport climbing, more than any other country. Two climbers, Colin Duffy and Brooke Raboutou, competed in Tokyo, and all six American climbers are first-time Olympians.
