A long-awaited housing and hard work assignment on U. S. Forest Service land near Hilltop Drive in Steamboat Springs took another step forward Tuesday after the Yampa Valley Housing Authority announced the hiring of a partner of progression.

Servitas, founded in Irving, Texas, was named as the housing authority’s spouse in the construction of 84 workforce rental housing complexes on the eight-acre parcel, according to the housing authority.

The housing authority said it anticipates the allocation will provide 18 housing developments for U. S. Forest Service personnel, 10 developments for Steamboat Springs city workers and 56 affordable housing developments for “a broad segment of retirees. ” locals” who earn between $50 and $140. % of the region’s median income.

“Partnering with Servitas allows us to leverage their expertise and resources to create a development that not only meets the immediate housing needs of our workforce but also enhances the capacity of the Housing Authority,” said Jason Peasley, the YVHA executive director, in a statement.

Housing plans on federal lands are made imaginable by federal law that allows the United States Forest Service to lease administrative sites for workforce housing development. Sen. Michael Bennet and Rep. Joe Neguse visited the site last summer as Bennet pushed for an extension of the law.

“We are facing a housing crisis in Colorado, and that is too strong a word,” Bennet said. “And it’s especially problematic in hotel communities. “

In April, the Forest Service presented the city with a right of first refusal to lease the administrative site, and in June, the housing authority and the city signed a memorandum authorizing the YVHA to lead the development of allocation plans on behalf of the city. .

This memorandum also legalizes the housing authority to lease to a developer for allocation and for a percentage of pre-development costs.

According to the housing authority, the progression is expected to “feature all-electric, energy-efficient designs” near public transportation locations and Rita Valentine Park.

The housing authority said Servitas was selected as the site’s progression spouse “after a rigorous and competitive process” that began with a bid in May and garnered seven responses.
