J. D. Vance gave the impression of suggesting that Democrats had “tried to kill” former President Donald Trump by introducing him Wednesday at a rally in Asheboro, North Carolina.
After noting that Trump “gave up the simple life” to run for president, he continued, “They couldn’t beat him at the ballot box, so they tried to bankrupt him. They were unsuccessful, so they tried to remove him. They didn’t succeed, so they tried to put him in jail, and they even tried to kill him. “
Vance appears to be referring to Trump’s legal troubles, which have led to millions of dollars in fines and a conviction on 34 counts.
It’s unclear exactly what Vance meant by the latest comment, however, on social media, some speculated that it was a reference to Trump’s July 13 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania and an involvement in which Democrats were to blame. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was registered as a Republican.
Before introducing Trump, the vice presidential candidate spoke to attendees about the Democratic National Convention, security, immigration, inflation and the drug crisis.
At his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt, Trump talked about bulletproof glass, as did Vance, and basically discussed national security and the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Trump had to stop the demonstration when a member of the crowd called a doctor who needed medical attention, after which he left the podium and the bulletproof glass box that he enclosed and discovered the user in the crowd with agents of the Service Secret.
The Secret Service later showed Newsweek that after the heat-related incident, the individual was fined and had been taken care of by paramedics.
This may not be the last time Trump has used bulletproof glass to protect himself at long-running outdoor rallies; the Secret Service reportedly introduced him to Trump after his assassination attempt; This coat of arms is sometimes reserved for existing presidents.
This is the first time Vance has reported that Trump’s warring political parties tried to kill him; He made very similar comments at a rally in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 3, Mother Jones reported.
“They couldn’t beat him politically, so they tried to bankrupt him. They were unsuccessful, so they tried to remove him. They were unsuccessful, so they tried to imprison him,” he quoted, adding, “They even tried to kill him. “
Recently, Maryland Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin alluded to threats made to Republican candidates in the recent 2021 presidential election by Trump supporters.
In his speech at the Democratic National Convention, Raskin warned Vance about past threats against former Vice President Mike Pence’s life during the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, while saying the crowd chanted “Hang Mike Pence,” according to reports at the time. . Formation
Raskin said, “And by the way, J. D. Vance, do you understand why a sudden assignment is offered for a vice presidential candidate on the GOP ticket? They tried to kill his predecessor. They tried to kill him because he didn’t need to. “stick to Trump’s plan to destroy and nullify the votes of millions of Americans. “
Newsweek reached out to the Trump campaign and Vance for comment via email.
