Jeremy Green Eche took advantage of the opportunity and purchased the online site HarrisWalz. com for $8. 99 in 2020, while he was a senator. Kamala Harris of California is seeking the Democratic nomination for president.
“I just tried to get back his call and the calls of all the governors in the middle of the country that I can think of,” he recalled in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday.
Four years later, if Harris chooses Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, Eche could receive only one payday. He’s willing to sell it, along with a dozen other Harris websites, for $15,000, he says.
This is not a new situation for this 36-year-old trademark attorney from the Brooklyn district of New York. Eche is a cybersquatter, a user who buys a domain with someone else’s name or logo for very little money, hoping to sell it. to that user or logo to make a significant profit in the coming months or years. This is also known as domain investing, as it can lead to significant profits.
In 2011, five years before Hillary Clinton chose Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate in the presidential race, Eche, then known as Jeremy Peter Green before his marriage, purchased ClintonKaine. com. After the former Secretary of State made his choice, the squatter presented him to the crusade in exchange for a gigantic reward. They refused, so he sold it for $15,000 to a virtual marketing company that turned out to be Trump’s crusade. It carried anti-Clinton data with “Paid for through Donald J. Trump for President, Inc” written at the bottom.
Harris spent the weekend interviewing a half-dozen potential vice presidential candidates, including Walz, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Illinois Gov. J. B. Pritzker , and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, according to two other people with knowledge of Harris’ variety process. The other people spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss personal campaign deliberations.
He is said to be making his decision imminently and has a list of events planned with his partner this week.
Eche told the AP that he had not been contacted through any one hooked up to the Harris campaign. In 2016, it took a week after Clinton chose Kaine before connecting with someone from the Clinton campaign, and that because he had a connection to the operation.
He’s skeptical that Harris’ crusade will resolve itself before she makes her official decision.
“Hopefully (Harris’s) people will be a little wiser than Clinton’s,” he said.
Eche owns at least 15 websites similar to Harris and her potential vice presidential candidate. In addition to Walz, he also owns HarrisPritzker. com, a nod to the governor of Illinois; HarrisEvers. com, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers; HarrisFetterman. com, by Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman; HarrisWarnock. com, by Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock; HarrisPeters. com, by Michigan Senator Gary Peters; and several others.
But Eche has a favorite among his long-term candidates.
“Walz is my favorite,” he said. Of the other people he thinks about, Walz is the one who makes the most sense. “
It also has 10 websites showcasing Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other Democrats in preparation for a conceivable 2028 presidential bid.
Walz d’Eche’s online page is now just a blank chartreuse with the governor’s call in lowercase black letters, a callback to artist Charli President Joe Biden’s crusade, allowing the vice president to take charge of his operation.
It’s his wife’s idea, he says. But the site links to the online page of his startup – Communer, a site for buying and promoting domain names and brands – where he is offering Harris’ directory for $15,000.
Eche supported Clinton in 2016 and supports Harris this cycle. Still, her experience in 2016, when she became a pro-Trump, doesn’t give her a break in promoting Harris’ sites this time around.
“Harris’ campaign has many millions of dollars, so if they don’t buy their own domain, that’s very much their responsibility,” he said. “I have to sell it to someone. I know I can just donate it, but that’s not how it works. People who have billboards don’t donate them to the crusade. In fact, it’s just a property.
A spokesman for Harris did not respond promptly when asked if he contemplated buying the properties.
