Task Force Investigating Trump’s Assassination Attempt Visits Site of Butler Shooting

Members of a House task force investigating the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump will arrive today at the scene of Butler’s shooting.

Butler County Rep. Mike Kelly, Republican chairman of the bipartisan task force, and other members will meet with local officials and tour the site of the shooting on the grounds of the Butler Farm Show.

Kelly witnessed the July 13 assassination attempt. He attended Trump’s rally that day and sponsored the bill that created the task force, made up of seven Republicans and six Democrats.

The stated purpose of the task force is to understand what happened on the day of the assassination attempt, ensure accountability and prevent such an incident from happening again. A final report is expected before December 13.

Trump wounded in the shooting. Corey Comperatore, 50, of Buffalo Township, died. Two other men, David Dutch, 57, of Plum and James Copenhaver, 74, were wounded.

The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, was killed through the Secret Service.
