Donald J. Trump continued to raise false and inflammatory questions about Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity on Thursday, as Republicans watched as the former president took his crusade in a divisive and damaging direction.
A day after telling an audience of black journalists in Chicago that Harris had “all of a sudden” become “a black person,” Trump posted a photo on his social media site of Harris dressed in a sari. with a caption that reads: “We greatly appreciate your warmth, friendship and love for your Indian heritage. »
Trump also amplified messages from Laura Loomer, a right-wing activist, who had posted copies of Harris’s birth certificate and false accusations that Harris lied about her race.
Harris, whose father is from Jamaica and whose mother is Native American, has long known about her Black and South Asian heritage.
An alumnus of a traditionally black institution, Howard University, she responded to Trump’s comments in her speech at a black sorority conference on Wednesday, saying, “Other Americans deserve better. “
Whether Trump’s initial comments on Wednesday were planned or not, Trump’s team is obviously escalating this line of attack.
